4.5 stars! My friend and I really had a great experience all-around at Trio. We dined on a Friday night, had a reservation, and were seated right away upon arrival. The service was excellent! We were in no rush and took our time ordering several courses and sipping wine (go for the Conundrum White Blend). Our server was attentive yet never rushed us through what ended up being a relaxing 3-hour meal! The food was delicious and very well-prepared. We started with both the Jesus oysters and the fried oysters, which were fresh and a nice compliment to one another. The Jesus variety's signature cucumber was refreshing and offset by a hint if brininess. These paired perfectly with the wonderfully golden fried, hollandaise-kissed counterpart. We moved on to salads: mine the baby kale and beet over a goat cheese cream...my friend had the Caesar. The Kale and beet was very well-executed and nicely balanced in flavor and beet-to-kale-to-cheese ratio...a perfect 10! My friend, on the other hand, didn't love the egg on top of his Caesar. The attempt at deconstruction was a nice twist (the anchovies were a great salty bite), but breaking the yolk to finish the dressing made for some extra "eggy" bites and just a bit of inconsistency overall. Our entrees were excellent! My Branzino was slightly smokey from the accompanying bacon lardons...delish! My friend had the short ribs which, while mouthwateringly tender and savory, lacked creativity in the construction of a complete dish. The mushroomy, stew-like concoction should have incorporated some veg in addition to the crusty bread! We enjoyed coffee and the chocolate cake for dessert, which (unfortunately) I doubt was made in-house. This was okay...hit the spot really...but, frankly I expected a bit more after the lovely meal we had. Trio should add a homemade chocolate dessert, like a simple dark chocolate mousse! I'm a tough critic, but Trio definitely earned my endorsement! I can't wait to come back and bring my husband soon!

Had an absolutely amazing experience for a romantic date night; I would recommend the braised short rib to anyone, and the service was excellent. Although expensive, it is well worth it

I have been to Trio Grill twice now and I love it. First off the cocktails are amazing. My favorite is the Moscow Mule which is served in a copper mug which keeps the cocktail nicely chilled. The fresh ginger is just so refreshing. They also have an impressive wine list. On my first visit I tried the cheese platter which was served with this incredible truffle honey and jam with slightly grilled bread, simply fabulous. I also tried the Caesar salad which had the perfect amount of dressing and anchovies. For my main course I had the Filet steak served with the cut fries. My steak was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. On my latest visit I ordered the stuffed squid for an appetizer which were very tasty. My main dish were the diver scallops - amazing. They were cooked perfectly. Our waiter suggested we share sides so I shared the collard greens which I have never had before. To die for - so much flavor and no bitterness (which is what I believed collard greens to be). Everything was truly delicious and I will definitely be returning.

I have been here at least over half a dozen time and kept holding off my review until this recent visit. I'm torn as how to rate trio grill. I love the service. The food is overall great. The cigar area is definitely a big plus. But the atmosphere is where I'm very confused. Trio is trying really hard to be an upscale steakhouse/restaurant...similar to Capital Grille? Well at least that is my assessment from having been to both Capital Grille and Trio Grille so many times. I mean the overall layout of bar area, tables, and even down to the menu are similar. However, what really bother me is the bar area at Trio. It's right next to the dining area with no sound buffer. I mean even with half the bar full, it's SO LOUD that you can barely hold a comfortable conversation. Also, the noise completely drown out the beautiful piano music. I'm sure the pianist is annoyed too. Lastly, I feel the bar attracts different type of customers than customers that would normally come to Trio to enjoy an upscale restaurant. We saw people came in with shorts, jeans, and t-shirts. I mean c'mon, as a restaurant you have to have an identity. Do you want to be a Capital Grille or Outback Steakhouse? I really like Trio, but I think it completely lacks an identity. The owners of Trio should visit Capital Grille in Tyson's and see how an upscale steakhouse feels and the type of customers it attracts. You will never ever see someone wearing short and tshirt at CG. Also, even with a full bar, you can still have a romantic dinner at CG. Trio has a lot going for it with good food, service and cigar bar, but I will only go here if I want to slap on a pair of short, a tshirt and grab a drink. I would not be back if I want an upscale quiet dinner. Solid 4 stars for food and service, but 1 star for atmosphere.

Tonight was a special occasion for my husband and I. When I made the reservation I expressed that not only was it our first time at Trio but it was also our anniversary and asked to be seated by a window if possible. Not knowing what to expect I really didn't want to sit smack dab in the middle of the main dining room at a 2 seater. It was a special night.^^ I was excited to try this place out because of the great reviews and the cigar lounge that I knew my hubby would enjoy. As soon as we walked in we felt welcome and well taken care of. The lighting and atmosphere was warm and elegant without feeling snooty. The waiter promptly arrived at our table with 2 glasses of champagne and congratulated us on our anniversary. It was truly unexpected but much appreciated. Plus, the complimentary champagne tasted very good. Didn't give off a "cheap freebie" taste. Their bread was so yummy, the menu had great variety. We started with the jumbo crab cocktail and the cocktail sauce was perfect. My husband ordered the Colorado rack of lamb....best lamb he ever tasted! His words! I had a pasta dish that I can't for the life of me pronounce let alone spell burnout had chunks of sausage in it that was made with love and care and everything GOOD! The seasoning and preparation was excellent!!!! We finished with a crème brûlée made of bourbon...it too was goooooood. The service, the food, the timing w everything and the all around atmosphere was 5 stars. After dessert we braved the cold to have a cigar. Hubby smoked while I finished up our bottle of wine. The server, Ryan was nice enough to start a fire for us and although it was cold (it's outdoors so it's gonna be cold) the restaurant did everything they could by turning on all the heat lamps and starting up the fireplace. This place is awesome! Just go! Enjoy! You're welcome^^

I came here recently and I'm going to have to agree with some of the others and say that everything is overpriced. My date and I ordered two glasses of wine, the rack of lamb, the prime boneless ribeye, and one carrot cake which totaled to be around $120 without tip. It's unfortunate that we didn't order any sides with our entrees nor did we order any appetizers, yet our total was over $100. I don't have any problem spending a lot of money for quality food, but the food here really wasn't that memorable. The rack of lamb lacked some flavor and the prime boneless ribeye was over salted. I will give them some credit though, since I know they do make almost all of the food in house. On a more positive note, the service was great. They were very attentive, given it was also a Thursday night when I went. The staff is friendly and the food came out very quickly. The decor is nice and the live music adds the perfect touch to their delightful atmosphere. However, overall I think I could have gotten better food for that price elsewhere. I probably will not be coming back.

What a gem! The food is amazing - we had the salmon, my husband had the steak (and he is a midwesterner very particular about his steaks), and it was cooked perfectly, and nicely aged he said. The drink list is really good too! The ambience is great - we sat out on the covered patio area outside with fans going on the hot summer evening. The server was attentive and informative. What a great place!! Can't wait to come back.

OUTSTANDING !. Well run, Staff is professional, Knowledgable, and well trained. Nice wine selection, and a real mixologist. Food was well presented and cooked as ordered. The only caviat is, the risotto lacked a little salt or more parmesean. Its nice to see what a well run machine can do. we'll be back !!

Amazing meal! The service was outstanding and the food was incredible. I had the grilled Red Snapper, asparagus, and a latte. If I lived here I would be a regular!

I took my girlfriend and her parents here for a "just-because" dinner on Saturday evening. The ambiance and live piano music (and upright bass!) was fantastic. As for the food? Well, let me just start by saying that if every Caesar salad was as good as the one I had at Trio, I'd be the healthiest person on Earth! I never thought that I, a person who primarily eats meat, would ever post about how great a salad was. Better yet, our main courses (we all got the center cut filets) were even better. Even though there was a slight mix-up with which steaks were cooked which way (not their fault, it gets confusing with 4 identical cuts), we could not have been happier. Everything had fantastic flavor. Seeing as I actually went out of my way to sign up for a Yelp account to post this review, I think it's safe to say that we will definitely be coming back!

My husband and I finally tried this wonderful restaurant and it did not disappoint. They read in our reservation request that it was our first time and we were greeted with a complimentary glass of prosecco when we arrived. (So nice that they even read those comments!) My husband began with a dozen oysters, which he said were delicious. I began with the beet-kale salad -- delicious. I had the red snapper, which was beautifully presented and had the most amazing mixture of tastes and textures. My husband had the short ribs paparadelle (sp?). He loved it. Tim was our server and he struck just the right mixture of professionalism and friendliness. We felt special from the moment we walked in the door. It's a "lively" place -- so a little noisy, but a great atmosphere. I love the lighting...sort of an orange glow. The chairs are SO comfortable and beautiful I highly recommend Trio to all my friends!

Had a great experience at Trio Grill. The live music, excellent service and delicious food was well worth the money. This is an upscale place, so it's not cheap. My wife and I had oysters for an appetizer...they were great. For dinner, we split the 44 oz porterhouse steak. It was excellent...great flavor. As others have noted, the menu is still pretty small, but still was good. I recommend this place. Great experience. It's nice to have an upscale place in Merrifield.

This place definitely has potential. Went on a Wednesday night for happy hour with a girlfriend. The crowd was decidedly older, I'm guessing because of the pricier menu, but that didn't stop us from enjoying the live music, beautiful decor and good wine. We split the antipasti tray, which our waiter promised was perfect to split. Okay, maybe it is perfect to split for two people with no appetite, but it was a good thing we ordered the crab balls to supplement, because the tray came with one slice of prosciutto, one slice of salami, three asparagus twigs, and a slice of artichoke. The crab balls were mediocre, but everything on the antipasti tray was high quality and tasty. Our favorite part was the varied types of wine available during happy hour at five dollars per glass. It doesn't hurt that our server gave us a complimentary glass of bubbly - the way to my loyal heart! Speaking of server, ours was nice, but a little slow considering it wasn't that busy. Honestly, at several points, we looked around for our server (who was also bartending) and would struggle to get his attention from the end of the bar where he and several other servers were clearly shooting the breeze. Seriously? We didn't get the chance to try any of the entrees or peek into the cigar room, but that's just an excuse to go back for a fancy date night when I can rationalize getting the $44 porterhouse for two and cross my fingers for more attentive service.

My husband and I had been to Trio Grill for dinner several times and heard they are open for Sunday brunch so we went. The food was wonderful as was the service. We sat outside in their large seating area and with the ceiling fans, we were very comfortable. Unfortunately, we learned it was their last Sunday brunch which is too bad. We enjoyed everything about our experience.

Great New Restaurant Ate with friends last night at Trio Grill and was quite surprised. I will substantiate Juli B. 's review. The food, service and environment are a welcome addition to the Northern Va dining scene. The menu is not extensive but it has only been open l less than one week so they are doing what they feel they can handle before they expand. Nonetheless you find an ample menu from steaks, homemade pasta dishes, and creative seafood. Everything is a la carte and side dishes are not that large so it is possible to share but be aware it is not like Morton's. Carrot cake with carrot ice cream was excellent. After we went into the lounge and had an after dinner drink in a very pleasant atmosphere. Would highly recommend. It is not cheap!

This place was great, my husband and I really enjoyed it and plan to go back. I think it's worth noting there have been some menu changes recently. We went 02/12/14 and noticed there were differences from the menu others have reviewed here on Yelp. Now sides are included with your entree making the selections friendlier to the wallet. I'm happy they made this change! Now, the food. Appreciated the bread was warm and fresh. It's placed on your bread plate, no bread basket on table. The caesar salad was delicious. I got the 6 oz center cut and was delighted to find it was cooked perfectly to my medium rare request. The spinach is good and intensely lemony. The mashed potatoes were great and I would have thought the best side had I not tasted my husband's parmesan fries. Trust me, get those fries! Husband got the New York strip and was quite happy with it. He also LOVED his Manhattan and I enjoyed the Montepulciano. One minor suggestion for improvement on the food- we shared a slice of cheesecake. It tasted good, but I was surprised to find the texture slightly lumpy throughout. Not something I've experienced before in a cheesecake, and I'm guessing it wasn't intentional? The service was very good. Only glitch was our server asked if we wanted more bread, we said yes and never got it. Requested it again from the guy who delivered our food and received it promptly. Live piano was a nice touch, be forewarned the dining area is loud. I like it that way, hate feeling like you have to whisper to your date. The ambiance was very nice. Saw people dressed in everything from a North Face fleece to suit/tie but would error on the side of more dressy. We are so happy to have a great new restaurant like this nearby!

For Merrifield it was a bit "pricey". DC prices, essentially. I travel a lot domestically and eat at a lot of places, including various DC restaurants. On that scale this place is absolutely excellent. 2 of our 4 people had the scallops. One had the swordfish special and one had the beef short ribs. Everything was excellent. We all had oysters from their raw bar, 3 different varieties, all fresh and terrific. Dessert was creme' brule and, as another, homemade ice cream. Service was very attentive without hovering.

Walk-in dining last night - underdressed but hostesses were very welcoming and encouraging. Waitstaff was phenomenal - well versed in their menu options and not pushy. Happy to split our plates so that we could share easily. Very clean restaurant - well appointed and comfortable. Everything we ate was delicious - looking forward to going back

Fabulous! way to celebrate! Just had a wonderful celebration dinner for my birthday (and our upcoming wedding anniversary). Service was impeccable -- and a lot of people seemed to know it was my birthday. :-) The ambiance was perfect -- complete with an excellent pianist. Our meal started with a crab dip appetizer loaded with crab neat and delicious flavored -- nice surprise. A complimentary glass of champagne was provided to celebrate the big event. My husband had the scallops meal with mushroom risotto which he thoroughLy enjoyed.I had the red snapper special which has a slight crispness that really made the already wonderful fish POP! And a fabulous pickled cauliflower and vegetable medley which was the perfect compliment to the fish. Dinner drink options were plentiful and worth the somewhat upscale price tag. I enjoyed the drink "a drink with Hemingway" . Dessert for me was Creme Brolle, and like everything else we had, also served with great presentation -- and a lit birthday candle. I loved how special the staff made us feel with the celebration without the embarrassing rhetoric of some restaurants. Will definitely be back! Highly recommend this restaurant to all my friends!

This place looks much better than it is. Atmosphere was nice, and servers very attentive. But the food just missed the mark. (One save: the drinks were wonderful: Basil Kiwi tequila was great and the brazilian something also great.) We started with the cheese plate which was fine, but 2 of the 3 were underwhelming. The beet salad was... a beet salad with nothing special. The Rockfish was a little overcooked and just bland, even over the corn stuff and kale that it was served over. Not worth the $100 we spent.

  • Courtney C.

Happy hour here is spectacular! Half a dozen oysters for $7 and same price for signature drinks. I splurged and ordered the ribeye with lemon sautéed spinach. One of the best cuts of meat and cooked perfectly. There was no gristle, or excess fat-trimmed properly. Ranks in the top five steaks ever. The spinach was light and not over cooked or soggy like most sautéed spinach.

The food is great. I had steak cooked perfectly and the branzino was delish- the skin was crispy, stuffed with crab meat. Flavors are great.

This was an amazing place. I got to try the scallops, filet mignon, and the branzino. Each was astoundingly good. Scallops had a very flavorful crust; the steak was tender. Our server was great, very attentive to our needs without being overbearing. Can't recommend it enough.

We celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary at Trio on 3/23/2015. We were pleasantly surprised that it was restaurant week, too. We decided to go with the excellent recommendation of our waiter, Ryan, and went with the filet. To start, they brought us a complimentary glass of Prosecco, served in chilled champagne flutes. We then ordered an appetizer of their crab dip. It was outstanding combination of big lumps of crab and seasoning served with excellent baguette pieces. Another thing we noticed was that all the bread was served warm! Our filets were prepared perfectly with a nice char and minimal seasoning to allow the cut of meat shine thru with every fork tender bite. We ended with a yummy piece of Key Lime pie that had a unique coconut crust. Thru out the meal, Ryan, our waiter, offered excellent recommendations from food to the wine. We could not have been happier with out meal! Also, the noise level was a fairly low level, that I could hear Ryan and my husband speak, unlike some other restaurants we frequent. We will definitely be going again! Plus they had a smaller private dining room that would be very nice to have for larger parties.

We checked Trio out last week for a late dinner and it was a great experience! The wood bar was beautiful, had a comfortable warm vibe, the musicians were quality (and not too loud so you can hear your conversation), the food was yummy, and the bartender was good (the speciality cocktail I had was nice; I forget the name though). Looking forward to going back...it's definitely a quality spot! And it pulls an older (30+), more polished crowd (not really many of those spots outside of Tysons).

Had dinner on Saturday evening and it was a great experience. Beautiful restaurant with terrific food and drinks. Service was superior and comparable to the best in the area. Friendly and attentive without being annoying. A great addition to the Merrifield/Fairfax area. Wonderful not to have to drive downtown for a fine dining experience. The bar is gorgeous with great bartenders who remember your name. Really good signature cocktails and wine list too! Live music is great background and really fits the scene. We had a variety of dishes - the beef carpaccio appetizer is the best I've had in ages - including one of their signature steaks and a terrific scallop dish. Also had homemade pasta orrechiette pasta dish with Italian sausage and broccoli rabe that was excellent. So excited to have an upscale restaurant of this type so close to home.

LOVELY food! Scallops with mushroom risotto was so delicious! The risotto included large pieces of mushrooms - it wasn't just "essence of mushroom". The scallops were crusted with porcini mushrooms - mmmm, delicious! The rockfish, served on creamed corn infused with bacon, was a winner! The Mac and cheese - fabulous - such a great combination of cheeses! Portions were satisfying (as opposed to the small, "artful" servings you get in some restaurants), flavors were complex and tasty. Service was attentive and respectful. Our server, Ryan, did a great job of making sure we were enjoying our food and evening. Hope to make this a regular place for a nice night out. I'm giving Trio 4 stars because I reserve 5 stars for a second visit. Looking forward to that!

I was looking up new places for me and the bf to try, away from DC ,and away from tired Reston. We enjoy Matchbox and 4 sisters and head to sweet water a couple times a month, so I thought, let's give this place a try...Knock me over with a feather, that they allow cigar smoking on their small outdoor patio...it's very hard to navigate to, since they seat diners near that door, but it's worth it...a small heated outdoor patio with a fireplace and tv, so cozy! The service we have received from trio, either at the bar for dinner or out on the patio with Kim has been wonderful. So yep, in a week's time...we have been there 3 times. The music they play is very good, I heard a piano sax version of firework by katy perry. Based on this alone, I have to give them 4 stars. Now on to the food... We have ordered apps such as the short rib sliders, anti-pasti tray and cheese board...all good. For dinner, we have shared the bone in rib eye, collards and fries. The steak is delish...the roasted shallot they add on top adds a nice finish. The sides, need to be improved. We get that everyone LOVES bacon but a 2x2" piece of fatback on the side would suggest a nice smoky bacony flavor; we found them rather bland. The fries are way too thick for my liking, with no side of dipping sauce, not even ketchup, very dry. I recommend the fries at open road instead, i wonder if you can request it, since they share the same kitchen. For dessert, we tried the chocolate cake...the frosting/ganache was way too thick for my liking...I was told they make their desserts, but that frosting tasted like it was straight from resto-depot...however, their small scoop of coconut ice cream complimenting it, was yummy. Some tweaking to do, but already a big fan!

My husband and I have been to Trio Grill twice now, and have thoroughly enjoyed the experience each time. It is pricey but the service is excellent, the food is mostly excellent, and the cocktails are amazing (try Original Sin-- you won't regret it). For the service, both times the waiters went above and beyond. The first time, the waiter had the bartender come up with a special dessert drink for me, which was amazing. They also comped us a drink because service had been a little slow. The second time, we got complimentary champagne because it was my husband's birthday-- it was just a really nice experience overall. In terms of the food, it's delicious but a little pricey-- prohibitive for us unless it is a special occasion. I also wished they had filet mignon on the menu, as I wasn't pleased with their regular center cut and didn't want to spend $40+ on some of the other cuts. I was also shocked to see the price for the sauces and toppings that go on top of the steak- ranging from $4 to $12- which I can understand for some of the fancier sauces, but for a bernaise sauce? Eek. The calimari was great though, as was the ribeye (my husband ordered) and the sides are VERY generously portioned-- big enough to share. We also thoroughly enjoyed the cigar bar, despite the cold temperatures. The fire and the heaters kept us warm and their coffee was awesome. Overall a great place, though a bit pricey for every day eating. Glad to have it in the neighborhood!

Outstanding dinner for two over Memorial day weekend! I am typically a wine drinker but tried the Hemingway cocktail and it is my new favorite drink. Great way to start our meal. The beet salad had just the right sweetness in the dressing. I loved every bite. I was excited to see Soft Shell Crabs as an entrée, one of my favorite dishes. This one did not disappoint and I was able to substitute sautéed spinach to avoid extra carbs. My husband had the rack of lamb which was cooked to perfection, tasty, and tender. We dine out frequently and have enjoyed some of the great restaurants around the world and this one ranks right up there in our experience. All in all, a beautiful room, great food, and outstanding service.

My husband and I dine out at least twice a week at restaurants. My husband, myself and his 99 year old Mother had dinner on Saturday night in their outdoor dining room. Our superb waiters were Ashley and Rory. They both were friendly, professional, knowledgeable and very attentive. There was not one thing they could have done to make our visit more enjoyable. The menu is outstanding and has a great wine list. We had a hard time making up our minds because there are so many tempting dishes. We enjoyed the fried calamari, oysters, Wagyu flat iron steak, Berkshire pork chop, Brazino and Key Lime pie. The dishes were beautiful, fresh and delicious. Obviously, the Chef is very skilled and talented. We are thrilled to have found a great gem in this area with wonderful ambiance. We certainly will be recommending Trio Grill to our friends and colleagues. We can't wait to return.

We were pleasantly surprised to find Trio was upscale and had an extensive wine list and gourmet menu. All ingredients were fresh and the wait staff was professional. The live music was a pianist and it was enjoyable. They have a cigar menu and area for cigar smoking if you are into cigars. A must try place, we will be back!

Meh. For an upscale restaurant in Merrifield that costs this much, the food was just not up to par. Our server was not that enthusiastic, and it took forever for our entrees to come out. The best aspect of the night was the cocktail, A Drink With Hemingway. The worst was the fried Brussels sprouts. They were not cooked through all the way - pretty terrible. Everything else was just okay. Also, we ate inside but if you eat outside, you have the glaring view of the gas station right next store. Lovely.

Wow! What a gem! My boyfriend and I came here for the first time Saturday night. As soon as I walked in I was impressed. Whoever designed this place is a visually pleasing genius! Brick contrast wall, exposed wine coolers, mural of Marilyn Monroe, a live pianist, exposed wooden beams and extremely comfortable leather chairs at the table! White tablecloths and (LED) candles set the romantic mood for date night. We got the "sweet Jesus" oysters and they were the best I've ever had! We also got the calamari, also awesome. My main entree was the Norweigan Salmon with mashed sweet potatoes and swiss chard. What a fabulous pairing! The salmon was cooked to perfection (ordered medium well), but unlike anything I've ever had! The flavors were so unique. I can also speak to the flat iron steak my boyfriend got, so great! The fries he got were covered in melted Parmesan cheese and herbs. Delish! I had a fabulous evening and will def. be back. Also, try the Shiraz wine!

My husband and I went to Trio and really enjoyed it! Food was great, and so was the service! The hostess up front was warm and welcoming and took our coats so we didn't have to sling them over our chairs. We started off with two cheeses and for our main meal each had the 6 oz filet that was cooked perfectly. The whipped potatoes were good, the spinach was not. It was bland and tasteless. Something needs to be fixed with that because I do enjoy spinach! After our meal our waiter (who was extremely nice and dealt rather well with the *rich snobby gentleman sitting next to us) brought us two complimentary glasses if champagne! I said "perfect because its my birthday." Our waiter looked surprised he didn't know this ahead of time. He then brought us a delicious dessert! My husband later told me he did call the restaurant to make a note that we were celebrating my birthday and I guess whoever took the message made no sort of note because our waiter had no idea. Fail! Oh we'll, our waiter made up for it! With the cheese plate we both agreed the bread was too thick, crackers would have been great or even thin sliced bread and maybe a little better presentation. Overall great experience. The piano player was awesome, we'll be back!

Went there on Monday for a friends birthday. The service was great! However, this restaurant is COMPLETELY overpriced. We were there with a group of 6. Three of the girls got the filet. When it came out, it was the size of a large scallop, the size of the steak was laughable..... And it didn't even come with sides (those had to be ordered separate. While the steak was flavored well, the size was certainly not with the $29.00 menu price. I got a special for the night. Fried flounder over some sort of salad. The fish tasted like any other fried fish fillet and certainly not worth $30.00. While the service was wonderful, I certainly won't be back. There are much better and more reasonably priced options in the area with better food.

I went to TRIO Grill for the first time during Restaurant Week, which isn't necessarily the best time to really judge a restaurant. The servers were all nice, but the service was painfully slow. We had to wait nearly 20 minutes between each course. Food seemed to be coming out in waves and sometimes table who ordered after us got their food before us. The food also wasn't great. I definitely wouldn't pay the full price for it. We order the calamari, which was mostly just peppers. I ordered the Truffle Basted Chicken, which was a huge disappointment. There was no sign of truffle. The whole dish was soak in another sauce which caused the gnocchi and chicken to be extremely soggy. The dish was also TINY. Definitely not worth $24. The chocolate cake was pretty good, but seemed almost store bought. I don't think I'll be going back to TRIO Grill. The evening was nice but it was mostly because of my company. There are plenty of other nice restaurants to enjoy dates and special occasions at. I think I'll spend my time and money at those.

Very enjoyable dinner at Trio Grill. When I told our server, RJ, that we were celebrating our friends birthday he brought complimentary champagne to our table when they arrived! Our appetizer, Antipasti, was very good. Our dinners, Short Ribs, Shrimp Scampi and Divers Scallops were all delicious. Our server was attentive and his service was perfect! We enjoyed the live music as well. We would highly recommend.

This place is really great. I went here with my boyfriend at 5:30 on a Saturday, so there was plenty of parking and it wasn't super busy. The decor is beautiful and the live piano music was really pleasant. Our waiter was incredibly attentive, and there was always someone to fill our water glasses. We ordered the Tuna Sticks as an appetizer (seared tuna, wrapped in a spring roll wrapper on top of watercress, fennel, and blood orange vinaigrette). This was AMAZING. Omg. Amazing. I only wish there had been 6 pieces instead of 4 because it was So. Good. To drink, I had It's Pear Thyme (Berentzen pear liqueur, Bluecoat gin, spiced pear thyme syrup and grapefruit juice). This, too, was AMAZING. It tastes a little like cider with extra cinnamon, a little more syrupy, with a bite to it. I told my boyfriend I wanted to drink that every day. We both got steaks for the entree. I got the New York Strip (rare) with foraged mushrooms. He got the Ribeye (medium-rare). We got two sides: Whipped Potatoes and Fried Brussels Sprouts. The steaks were cooked pretty much perfectly. Very flavorful. The Brussels Sprouts were also really good but they were a little under-cooked, as the middle of them was still a little too hard. The Whipped Potatoes were incredible. I love this place and I can't wait to go back.

Start with a moscow mule, grab a bottle of wine and order the porterhouse steak. Brussels sprouts were good too. The live music is nice and even with the musicians you can have a conversation better than most places.

I went here with friends for my birthday and I couldn't have been happier! From the time we entered they were absolutely amazing. Our server was incredibly attentive and accommodating. We had the crab dip appetizer and I must say it may be the best crab dip I've ever had. There were huge chunks of crab meat...absolutely delish! For our entrees we opted for crab cake (with mashed potato), pasta and scallops. Everyone was completely satisfied with their entree choices and I enjoyed every bite of my crab cake and potatoes. I was completely stuffed but had been eyeing the dessert choices and trying to decide which of the amazing sounding options I wanted to try (it was my birthday after all!). Imagine my surprise when the manager and waiter brought out complimentary desserts for my celebration! We had the chocolate cake, key lime pie and peach cobbler. I'm so glad I didn't have to choose because each one was better than the last! All in all, we left happy and completely stuffed! Thank you to the staff and management at Trio Grill for making my birthday celebration great. I've been bragging about you ever since! Amazing staff, service and food! I can't wait to return again!

Let me start off by saying the food here rocks. If this review was on food alone, they're a 5 star. Unfortunately their service was lacking both times we visited and we don't plan to be back. They seem to have an odd policy to not start cooking entrees until you've 100% finished your appetizers which leaves you to wait 15-20 minutes additionally for your main dish. If this was communicated well, it wouldn't be an issue but their servers seem to be ghosts half the time and never visible to even hail over. If you do go, and strictly go for the food, you have to try the squash soup. Absolutely delicious. The bison dishes are great too, and the lamb is spot on.

It's rare to stumble across a gem with five-star food AND five-star service, but Trio exceeded my expectations on both counts. I knew I would like our waiter when he brought out a plate of thick-cut, crusty bread with sweet butter. He suggested we start with the crab dip, and we were glad we listened to his recommendation because my goodness, that was some rich and creamy crab dip (with lots of crab meat!). It also came with a big portion of deliciously buttered ciabatta. There were tons of other appetizers I wanted to try: tuna tartare nachos, confit chicken drumsticks, and smoked house made burrata among others. Next time! My date and I shared two entrees (yay for family style!) - 1. Cornmeal crusted rockfish on a bed of bacon-infused creamed corn, with sauteed baby kale, heirloom tomatoes, and chive pesto. -- Cannot recommend this enough! It was just perfect. 2. Boneless ribeye (i think! or maybe the NY strip) -- cooked to a perfect medium rare with a really nice crust. We also got a side of triple cheese macaroni. TRIPLE CHEESE! Enough said. Now on to the true differentiator. When making the reservation for dinner, I noted that we were celebrating my date's birthday. After we finished dinner, our waiter brought out a big old piece of key lime pie on the house, followed by two glasses of champagne. Totally unexpected, and so nice! We just ate our key lime pie, drank our champagne, and enjoyed the chill ambiance and music without any pressure to leave. We did spend some time tracking our waiter down for the check, but that is totally forgivable given all of Trio's other merits. Thanks for a great evening!

Trio is what many restaurants in the area should be - a high quality dining experience. Trio is located on Lee Highway, meaning it's conveniently located but perhaps not located in the prettiest area in Falls Church. The interior makes up for it, though - it's a bit vintage but yet nicely modern American, and the leather-and-cloth seats were a quite pleasant touch. Prices are medium-high for the area, and service is superb. The place actually felt strangely dead for being a weekend, though I suspect it can get quite busy - the place is somewhat packed with tables and chairs, so space is almost at a premium. The food here is quite good. The Confit Chicken Drumsticks were excellent and fall-off-the-bone tender, though perhaps a little underwhelming in terms of size. My Free Range Pan-Roasted Chicken was much more appropriately sized, and the accompanying mushrooms and swiss chard really helped elevate it quite a bit. I could have gone without the potatoes, though, which felt kinda afterthought-y - then again, I've never been a big fan of potatoes in the first place. Their Key Lime Pie is probably the best of its kind I've ever had, though - I cannot recommend it enough. The drink list here is also worth mention - it's solid as a rock. They have Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA on tap, which is really all they need in terms of beer selection.

This is definitely a hidden gem. We enjoyed a night of drinks, steaks and more drinks. We enjoy sitting at the bar, and our bartender was exceptional. They offer a small happy hour for their drinks a few nibbles that included very large shrimp cocktail. I enjoyed that and the wife enjoyed a nice batch of lightly fried calamari. The bourbon selection was nice. Both of us ordered steaks that came with a choice of their sides. I ordered the 14 oz NY strip that was cooked just right. I was told that they had a very good mac and cheese, so that accompanied my slab of steak. The wife ordered a rib eye that was a bit over done, so they brought out a new one, and made sure she was happy with her meal. Everything about the evening was great including the bartender who made our night. We'll definitely return and continue to dine at the bar because that's where we find the action!

This is a great place for a fancy first date or a really nice celebratory dinner. I mean suit and tie, oysters on a half shell, type of fancy. The bar which takes up almost one whole wall is a great place to go if you find yourself not wanting to eat in their beautiful restaurant. Or just grab a drink while you wait for your date to arrive. The happy hour prices are decent. I loved the cucumber margarita that the bar tender Kevin gave me. I'll definitely go back and get more than just a drink. The menu does look good!

We came here on Sunday for our 3 year wedding anniversary. The service was good. The staff was very friendly. It wasn't very busy, but I've never seen the parking lot full when driving by probably due to its odd location. I ordered the Bison steak as recommended by our server and my husband got the NY strip. My food was tough, dry and over cooked. Aside from that it was a decent dining experience but the reason why I'm giving it one star is because of what happened the next day. I tossed and turned in bed that night and felt terribly ill the next day. I felt like throwing up but hate doing it so I spent the whole day trying to fight it off. Finally I couldn't take it anymore and I had to make myself throw up to feel better. What came up was everything I had eaten at the restaurant. My entire Labor Day off work was ruined. It's now 2 days later and I'm still feeling a little sick. We will never eat here again.

Wow, what an experience! Trio Grill is the first and only 'upscale/higher tier' restaurant of the Circa chain (Arlington & DC, which I've never tried). I've passed by this place multiple times when I get off of the Express Lanes, but never had a chance to stop by! When my husband and I arrived, doors were opened for us and the hostesses welcomed us very warmly. We came a little earlier than our online reservation, but it was okay - we were seated right away, near the Justice lounge (an outside cigar lounge with heated lamps, flat screen TVs, and a full-service bar). They offer a Raw Bar Happy Hour (M-F from 4-7PM), a dinner menu (offering items such as oysters, crab dip, shrimp & grits, braised lamb shank, etc.), an extensive wine list, desserts, and even a bar menu. Our server was Ashley, and she was AMAZING. She welcomed us, as it was our first time, and gave us a nice detailed overview of the menu as well as her recommendations. We started off with the Crab Dip (jumbo lump crab, Old Bay, Monterey Jack, and a crushed oyster cracker crust (yes, not breadcrumbs!). This came with baked ciabatta slices - the dip was actually pretty tasty! Creamy, but not too heavy, right amount of savoriness, seasoned quite well, and contained big chunks of luscious crab! The ciabatta tasted slightly 'grilled,' and it was a good complement). I also tried the Confit Chicken Drumsticks (chicken 'lollipops' that were glazed with spicy (but, not spicy) house-made chpotle bbq sauce, set on top of Maytag bleu cheese creme; I asked for these extra well-done, and they came out perfectly :D Crispy, but juicy, not too sweet of a glaze, and a light cream of bleu cheese at the bottom to dip/smear it with - I was a fan!). For our entrees, we ordered the Cowboy Bone-In Ribeye (16 oz. and comes with a whole roasted shallot and a side (Oven-Baked Triple Cheese Mac, which was really cheesy and nice!) - they cooked it absolutely perfectly, and my husband was quite impressed; it came with a chianti jus, but you can also request other sauces)), Porcini Crusted Diver Scallops (on top of mushroom risotto that had mascarpone and basil oil - the scallops were huge, but I was just not a fan of the risotto, as it had whole peppercorns in it and was quite overwhelming)), and the Free Range Roasted Half Chicken (stuffed with mushroom and prosciutto duxelle, wilted Swiss chard, roasted garlic mashed potatoes, and golden raisin jus - I loved this dish, as it wasn't just a basic 'roasted chicken,' but the skin had lovely seasoning, and the meat itself was sous vide - very juicy and tender; I absolutely loved the golden raisin jus, as it added a nice sweet element to it (you can also request for more!)). We also had a side of the Fried Brussels Sprouts with Apple Vinaigrette (flash-fried, cut in halves; it was creamy and crunchy and yummy!) and the Garlic Whipped Potatoes (airy, fluffy, and creamy with a nice garlic hint). The restaurant itself is very chic and modern, with large shades on the ceilings, dark wood, and comfy leather armchairs at tables. We were checked upon constantly, and I felt as if we were doted upon - loved the great service and the attention! The managers, Rachel and Sheri, came by to check up on us, and Walter and Dennis (the other servers), had a great sense of humor and were so cool! The overall comfortable ambiance, the service, and the solid food really made this an enjoyable dining experience. We are definitely going to go back to check out the pianist as well as to try out their other items, such as the oysters, the Chilean Sea Bass, and steaks :D +Confit Chicken Drumsticks +Crab Dip +Fried Brussels Sprouts with Apple Vinaigrette +perfectly-cooked steaks (!!!) +Free Range Roasted Half Chicken (love the golden raisin jus!!!) +ask for Ashley - she was AWESOME!!! :D +Grand Pianist on Friday evenings :D +HH weekdays (4-7PM) +outside patio/cigar lounge with a full-service bar +has a parking lot (shared with other businesses); valet is an option +no strict dress attire

We've lived here in Falls Church City since 2008 and remember when the development kicked up on that end of Leesburg, but I must say, we've found our new "go-to" in Trio Grill, the bartenders were knowledgeable and polished, drinks were AMAZE, the pianist set the tone and the ambience was spot on, at the end of the night we shared the tuna tare-tare and the 22oz Ribeye, cooked exactly to our liking, I have no complaints and can't wait to go back :)))

Can I give more than 5 stars? Our meal was AMAZING! this was our second time dining here. After our first awesome meal (see previous review) and seeing a Chateaubriand special on their facebook page I knew I wanted to celebrate our anniversary here. I contacted Trio Grill about the special I had seen and asked if they could do that for our anniversary. Luckily they said yes.... ohhhh it was soooo worth it. We started our meal with a half dozen oysters... briny and fresh they were a perfect start. We then split a Ceasar salad. Their version lightly dressed with white anchovies. Then our special! The Chateaubriand was perfectly cooked. Cut like butter and the taste..... ohhhh yum! While there was a very tasty brown gravy trust me this meat needing nothing extra! Served with it were roasted baby potatoes and asparagus. We ended up eating only half as we had to save room for dessert. To end our evening a rich, dense, scrumptious cheesecake with mascerated fruit. We shared a piece but I contemplated ordering a second one as it was that good. Service was perfect. They seemed to know just when to check in on us. Anticipating what we might need next. In talking to the manager who stopped by they are working on a special seven course new years eve dinner. Sounds intriguing... I so need to explore more things on this menu!

Trio, you've been on my list since you've opened! Thank you fellow yelpies for such honest reviews. My girlfriend and I decided to 'happy hour hop' on a lazy Monday afternoon. We started at Trio Grill. Parking was a plus, plenty of it, even if they shared a lot with the Open Road Grill. We bee-lined to the bar, and snagged two corner seats. There appeared to be regulars already planted in their usual seats, that's another plus. Bartender was friendly and quick to provide us with HH menus and table settings. I was hesitant to order their mojito since I find most bar served mojitos just don't carry the 'umph' that I need in a beverage. This was different, it had the fantastic sweetness and the 'umph' that pushed me into rum-land. There was no evidence of harsh liquor yet the drink itself packed a good punch. The mint leaves were perfectly muddled and the sweet syrup kept this beverage alive. The wine pour was AH-mazingly full. All this for a nice HH price($6/$7). We sampled a nice tray of oysters ($18 for a dozen) and a hot platter of Calamari.($7) We couldn't stop there and ordered a side of their truffle fries($6). All the food was excellent and freshly prepared. I'm looking forward to tasting their other dishes. My hubby and I will come back to hear the pianist and taste their dinner options. Happy hour runs from 4pm to 7pm.

This is one of my new favorite places. I haven't been to dinner but have enjoyed happy hour a few times. It's a quiet and classy bar. Service is excellent and the ambience is relaxing. Happy hour drink specials are great with $5 dollar glasses of wine. Good wine. I've really enjoyed the bar food as well. The short rib sliders are amazing, as is the beet salad. The anti pasti is good and the flat bread is worth getting. While enjoying the food, drinks and service, we are serenaded by piano and horn. Love this place!

This is my second time going here and both times for a large group for a birthday event. The first time I went, I ordered the chianti braised short ribs. I loved the accompaniment of the mushrooms and the ciabatta. It was actually a pretty heavy dish. I liked how the ribs were very tender and it pulled apart very easily. The only thing I didn't like was that there were some chunks of fat and that was not a very tasteful mouthful. The second time I ordered the tuna tartare as the entree. Other people at the table had ordered the crab dip, arancini, fried calamari, and Chesapeake bay fried oysters so I got rather full after tasting all of that. Crab dip - I actually really liked this dish. There were lots of chunks of actual crab in the dip and it wasn't too salty like most other crab dips are. I would highly recommend to try this. (It's $16 btw) Fried calamari - Crispy and good. Tad bit bland in my opinion. ($13 for this dish and it's ok) Arancini - Basically this is in a shape of a meatball with risotto and spicy sausage. Didn't taste spicy at all and the risotto made the texture of the dish interesting. It's not bad. You get three meatballs for $12. Meh. Fried oysters - The outside breading was crispy/crunchy. Not bad. The oyster inside was I feel fresh? Since it was flash fried it wasn't cooked or anything like that, but it went well with the breading. You get five of these for $12. Tuna tartare - I really really loved this one. You can't taste the fishyness of the tuna at all and goes well with the avocado. It's topped with wontons and I loved it. I loved the taste of the sesame oil and the red paste that was also on it. (The red paste is a Korean paste that you can use for various dishes, spicy) It wasn't overly drenched with this red paste I speak of, but it was a good accompaniment. ($14) My friend ordered the duck wellington and mushroom bisque (special of the night) The duck was very tender and went great with the bread filling. The mushroom bisque, however, was a bit too salty. Service wasn't bad, but considering it is a large group, the waiter could have checked back a little more often. Though some of the food was good, I wouldn't go out of my way to crave this place. It's not bad, but also not that great. Nice place, upscale, I've just been to better places.

We live close to this restaurant and pass by it frequently. The parking lot is always full so I decided to make reservations to surprise my husband for his birthday. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful inside including the bar. We also thoroughly enjoyed all of our food as well as the great piano player. I did add "birthday celebration" to our reservation and even dropped a hint when we were ordering desserts but didn't get any acknowledgement whatsoever which was disappointing to me....was expecting at least a candle. I'm sure we'll go back just maybe not for any special occasions.

I loved Trio! The food was amazing- highly recommend the crepe (appetizer), rockfish (entree), and apple pie (dessert). If you drink, get the "Stormy Night" it is an amazing twist on the "Dark and Stormy" and quite artfully done. The service was amazing. Everyone was so attentive (even though the restaurant was packed). Sheri (the manager) was great- she came over to our table multiple times to check-in, fill up waters, etc.

Trio Grill is a cute new(ish) restaurant off route 29. They specialize in handcrafted cocktails, steaks, seafood and bill themselves as Merrifield's only cigar lounge. We were able to secure a table for 4 at 8:30 on a Friday night with no problem (I love restaurants that don't block off prime time dinning!!!!!) and were greeted and seated promptly and courteously. My husband and I arrived before my girlfriends did and Ashley (our rockstar server) came over and greeted us right away. Once the girls arrived, we selected drinks and aps and were given the highlights and evening features. My husband was very impressed with his cocktail-the stormy night. Also, I enjoyed hearing live piano music throughout dinner. Overall we were satisfied with our food. I think my husband's steak and garlic mash were the table's favorite, my petit filets and crab were second, my girlfriend's mussels and clams third, and then our least favorite was the rockfish (it was a little bland and one dimensional). Dessert however, was a whole different story. We watched a piece of chocolate cake go by and even though we were stuffed, the entire table decided we had to split one! O.M.Goodness. Can we just take a minute to talk about the chocolaty heaven they serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream? Yum! I would say definitely split one if you are so inclined-but definitely don't pass it up! You're welcome. :) It was a good night. I can see TRIO Grill being a good date spot too. I like that it's a versatile enough of a restaurant to be appropriate for lots of things. I also LOVED the Marilyn room in the back. A private function would be so much fun there in such a cool space.

In the past few months, I've been to TRIO Grill twice and had wonderful experiences both times. On my first visit, with family, we had a long sit-down dinner on a weekday in the main restaurant area. On the second visit, my friend and I decided to sit in the bar area to take advantage of the awesome Raw Bar happy hour options - it was a no brainer since I was craving oysters and they offer the full dinner menu in that area as well. Both times, I had delicious food, and exceptional service. Below is a list of some of the noteworthy things I tasted. - Porcini Crusted Diver Scallops: My favorite dish so far, great presentation, flavors were just right, and the scallops were cooked perfectly - Free Range Roasted Half Chicken: I usually don't rave about chicken dishes at fancy restaurants but this one was SO good. The chicken was juicy and flavor, and the portion size was extremely generous. - Crab Dip - best I've ever had in my life...enough said? - Fresh Oysters - Fresh and tasty, plus excellent prices during happy hour in the bar area - Filet Minion - I didn't order this myself but had a big bite from my uncle. I will definitely come back here next time I'm craving a delicious and well executed steak! Above all, I really want to reiterate how awesome the service was, not just in the main restaurant but also in the bar area. Both times, our servers were patient, friendly, provided great recommendations, and even had a sense of humor. It was obvious that they actually enjoyed being there and being a part of our dinner experience. I'm not sure what TRIO Grill is doing to keep its staff so happy but everyone from the waiters and bartenders, to even the bus-boys were extremely pleasant to interact with. I only wish that other restaurants could emulate the quality of service at TRIO.

Don't call me a snob but growing up here and living a life/career that sees me into a lot of DC and Arlington restaurants, Trio's is a restaurant that I uniquely appreciate. Since moving to the suburbs there's a lot of great restaurants around that are high quality, but this place has kept my loyalty. First off, the restaurant itself is conveniently located and it's beautiful inside. They take your coat and they have a piano player as well. The steak cuts are swooningly tender and well flavored. They sear/broil and you can tell they take great pride in how their steaks are prepared. Additionally there is plenty of creativity in how they make their appetizers (the fried oysters with corn..mmmm) and their sides (asparagus in particular) are delicious too. Plus they have great oysters on the half shell in that they oysters are huge, they're not dingy and shelly, and they're just better than surrounding places. That's just the food part. If you like cocktails, this place is your jam. They make cocktails like a snooty DC craft cocktail bar would. They're usually 11-12 dollars apiece and not 14-15 like you see in DC. If you like whiskey- their TRIO MANHATTAN is awesome as well as the Maple Infused Old Fashioned. They pay particularly close attention to the quality of ingredients and other details. For example: most places make a Moscow Mule with Goslings ginger beer (boo). They make a MM with Fever Tree ginger beer (which is the best ginger beer on the market pretty much) and they put it in the copper cup. The result-the best one you can get, and even better than the ones I try to make at home. I'm glad I live close to this place. I will keep coming back here!

A story of two sisters. Trio is the older, sophisticated sister that doesn't get much attention, and it's sister restaurant, open grill is the "fun sister" that's popular with everyone. Well ya know what? Trio is beautiful and has a great personality to boot and I would be her friend too! Why do I like this place so much? A couple of reasons: 1) Service here has always been extremely professional. Sure, sometimes it gets a little slow, but I think it's just because the staff notice that you are having a great conversation and don't want to bother you. If memory serves me correctly, we spent 3 hours here once, with a six course meal followed by a nice conversation where none of the staff wanted to get rid of us to turn tables like other restaurants. 2) the food. I have to say I've never had a bad dish here. The calamari is nicely spiced and garnished with delicious olives and artichokes. The tuna tartar is well prepared. However, i did find that the beef carpaccio was "pre-prepared." meaning it was probably chilled too long before service, so it stuck to the plate. Nevertheless, the steaks are pretty good. 3) THE GRAND PIANO PLAYER - word on the street is that he/she shows up on Fridays. Imagine hearing Katy Perry's Fireworks, or the latest Nicki Minaj... on grand piano. The piano renditions of major pop songs are worth the trip! Sadly, on nights without the piano player, the main dining room can get a little noisy. Perhaps some sound dampening would help. 4) HAPPY HOUR. I once had a happy hour party of about.... 20 here, and they were totally accommodating. Even the other guests were very cordial even though we were taking up space. Even the clientele here are great! So what's the overall assessment? Sure, you can go to open grill and see sawdust on the floor, but Trio will give you something else - a savoir faire sophistication where both looks and personality counts. She's well versed in the arts, has great friends, and isn't high maintenance. Trio Grill is the friend you want to have and you know she'll be dependable in good times and bad!

I came here with a bunch of friends to grab a drink and it was very enjoyable. We sat at the bar area and had some wine with appetizers. The bartender was very friendly and nice to us. He even poured us a little sample of wine that he recommended to go with our crab dips. He even took us to the Justice Room to shows the cigar lounge. Here is where I was smiling from one end of my ear to the other. A cigar lounge at the side of the restaurant, away from everyone so you can sit down have a drink and puff away. There are heat lamps and a fireplace to keep you nice and warm. Time to restock my cigars. We had calamari and crab dips for our appetizers. The crab dip was delicious. Calamari was moist and prepared perfectly. Crunchy breading and moist. Some restaurants tend to over cook it and the calamari ends up being rubbery. I would definitely come back for dinner and update my review to reflect the dinner. Overall pleasant experience and great wait staff makes the dining experience perfect.

Went to Trio for the first time and all I have to say is "AWESOME". Their roasted beet salad with arugula & goat cheese was so tasty! The crab dip was so chunky with lump crab meat and the best dip we ever had. Filet with blue cheese was cooked to perfection. Ny strip medium rare with smoked shallot was very delicious. The margarita flatbread was yummy and the double cut pork chop with mashed sweet potato & broccoli rabe was so delicious!!

Judging by the other reviews, I am guessing my experience was rare. Many errors throughout the meal on a slow day (looked like only 5 other parties dining at the time). The food was delicious so I will give it another try. What was comical: - Meal was extremely slow. Salads took forever to come out. Almost finished my drink before the salads came out. - Food runners came to the table and placed all salads in front of the wrong person. -Food runners came to the table and placed the wrong entrees in front of each person. They ended up having to ask who ordered what as we passed the entrees around. -Forgot pork entree. When it was delivered to the table, it was undercooked. -Food runners placed all the wrong desserts in front of each person. -Person who received the undercooked pork entree received the wrong dessert...at this point it was just hilarious. We kept the wrong dessert-it was fine. -A manager never came to the table to apologize for undercooked meal. Again, for such a slow day, I would have expected a manager to stop by. Server had to handle it all...he was great. What we genuinely enjoyed: -Server was extremely kind and very apologetic about the undercooked pork. Thank you! He gave us an additional pork meal for no charge. -Food was delicious! Again, I think this was a rare experience so I will try it again if I'm in the area.

I've been to Trio two times now and am way overdue to write this yelp review! Let me start by saying that it always leaves a nice first impression when the restaurant offers complimentary valet service. I was with my parents, my significant other, and his parents and we arrived about 10 minutes early and they were still able to seat us right away despite the restaurant being full. The hostess (I think her name was Cherry), took our jackets and offered us a complimentary champagne toast when we sat because it was our anniversary. The service, food, and drinks that followed were spectacular! Their dark & stormy (called "A Stormy Night") and their Moscow Mule were both amazing and at one point later in the night the bartender made us a special drink that was his own version of "Fireball" as it was made with Whisky and a cinnamon infused simple syrup

They had rack of red deer the day we went, and man, was that bang-on. The wife had some fish dish, and liked it enough not to share. Worth checking out, and we weren't sneered at for not being well dressed that day either, so not only is the food good, but it tries to be classy and unpretentious too.

First time here today. Love this restaurant alot . The place is nice. Service is excellence!! I think the food there is a little bit pricy, but Worth. They are taste good and fresh. We ordered the tuna tarter and oysters for appetizers. The first one of the menu is the best (I think). Tuna tarter is good too but just a bit too much sesame oil. Soup of the day was salmon chowder. MUST TRY item. Menu couse was the boneless ribeye. Personal love it . 14oz is good for one if you are a steak lover. Last we order creamy burlee (forgive my spelling if I was wrong) was amazing ! Not too sweet but definitely hit the spot ! Oh drink menu . Just too bad they don't have Moscato!!!!

Thank you fellow Yelpers! My wife and I were meeting another couple and wanted to find a nice place near Mosaic district. Yelpers to the rescue.. Trio is easy to get to. It is located in a nice area near another nice restaurant. Inside decor is very upscale and comfortable. Service was exceptional; always available without hovering or making us feel rushed. But the food..oh my gosh, the food! Absolutely the most flavorful asparagus ever complemented my filet mignon that was cooked to perfect medium rare. Not medium, not rare, but perfect medium rare with red center, few millimeters of pink on either end, with crispy surface! What more can you ask? I suppose I could ask for great meat marinated perfectly. But I didn't have to; that was exactly what I got. Heeding the Yelpers' advice, went for the oysters and crab dip. Glad I did. Ordered another half dozen oysters. Doubly glad I did. Lemon meringue pie and creme Brule were perfect end to perfect meal; the only downside was difficulty in breathing after overstuffing myself. I am willing to endure that time and again.

What an amazing neighborhood gem! Both service and food were excellent. Our service team was polite, professionally friendly and made our meal a great experience. The host held the door open for me! Now on to the food... Bread: The ciabatta was fresh and warm. The luscious butter had mustard seeds, honey and a hint of lager. That latter gave it the whiff of awesomeness. Also, the butter was soft and spreadable. Not the hard mounds that lots of restaurants dish out. Appetizer: We shared the crab dip and the arancini. The dip was warm, cheesy and creamy with big lumps of crab. The old bay was a great touch. You know when you get those crab dips that are mostly filler or just cheesy goo? Yeah, not this! I wish it came with crackers and not ciabatta to make the dish lighter, but not a biggie. The arancini was pretty good, being stuffed with spicy sausage and lots of cheese. The tomato sauce and the creamy pesto on which the risotto balls sat were sweet and savory at once. Lamb shank: It's huge! I mean the size of two fists! The shank was braised until it was ready to fall off the bone with a nice crust. I daresay I liked the white bean ragout and lemon spinach sides better than the meat. The brown butter and beans lent to a nice balanced creaminess in the sauce. The chunks of slow cooked tomatoes and garlic tied everything together. The lemon spinach was a nice pop to cut the richness of the dish. Steak and shrimp and grits: My dining companions thoroughly enjoyed these. Mushrooms: This side is to die for. Full disclaimer: I am a mushroom fanatic. The wilder the mushrooms, the better. This had all kinds of different kinds of mushrooms and a LOT of them. Good thing this was my side although, I generously allowed others to have a bite. Truffle fries: They were very truffle-y with a sprinkling of Parmesan. I wasn't super impressed because they were not very crispy, but the person who got them was not complaining. Brussel sprouts: Crispy on the outside and hard on the inside. Not my cup of tea. These should have cooked first and then fried. Chocolate cake: Gigantic slice! Very rich and chocolatey! Upside down apple cake: On its own the cake was a little blah, but that's why you take a bite with the caramel sauce and the cooked down apple slices on top. You must go there if you are in the area and definitely if you want to venture out of DC! The food is superb and prices are quite reasonable for what you get. Instead f going to Sweetwater and the like, try this place. Trio will pamper you and send you back home with a full belly and a smile on your face.

Stopped by on a Friday night and to my surprise three of my favorite bartenders were working. A beautiful dining room and nice bar. The spacious dining room and the piano player sets the mood. I've already told a few people to try Trio. I'll be back this week or next.

same owners as Open Road(next door) and various Circa restaurants in the DC area the space is very upscale and nice; staff are very friendly; great outdoor patio area plus covered/heated cigar/smoking area(def a plus) live music is def a plus we had the sliders, salads, ravioli and various pasta dishes; the food was pretty good; some of the dishes were very heavy in salt; we sent some dishes back; the manager was very understanding and swapped out some dishes at no charge i would wait a few more weeks until they solve some issues in the kitchen; otherwise, should def be a a hit in the merrifield/tysons area

Ordered: Crab Dip; Porcini Crusted Diver Scallops; Wild Caught Rockfish; Oscar Style Medallions; Oven-Baked Triple Cheese Mac What to order: not the aforementioned aside from maybe the medallions and mac n' cheese; still plenty to try on this menu, but I rather spend this much at a restaurant I know is good. Seeing the reviews this stellar, I decided to take my mom here for her birthday this past Sunday evening. I hope the time of the meal didn't affect the meal itself, but if it did, that's indicative of inconsistent executions. For the price that you're paying, you want to expect good service and also the food quality to be up to par. However, they did give us a chocolate cupcake, which was good. Crab Dip ($16): the dip itself was great, but the parmesan was lazily sprinkled only over the top of the criss-cross bread architecture they had. Parmesan has more of a sharp, saltiness to eat. Eating this w/ the crab dip pushed it overboard. We decided to eat the dip mainly w/ the regular bread they provided. Scallops ($32): ... ... ... overpriced and overrated... the crusting on the scallops were barely achieved and also at the expense of burning the seasoning they had. Even though the creamy risotto had succulent sweetness, that didn't even make up for the disappointing scallops. Rockfish ($28) : also salty; at this point, we felt bad to point out these two dishes. Medallions ($35): this was the only dish that hit the spot. Hollandaise may have been in excess, but I can't complain. The asparagus were a tad overcooked. Mac n' Cheese: I actually enjoyed this side more than the main entrees.

WOW! I don't see how this restaurant can receive any less than 5 stars!! Took my husband out on his birthday and I couldn't have asked for better service from our server Kevin, who brought out the birthday chocolate cake with sprinkles since I mentioned it on the reservation, also a complimentary champagne toast :)! Then the manager Mike brought us over a happy birthday balloon, and was so sweet with taking a picture of us! Outstanding service, and working in the service industry myself, I REALLY enjoyed Trio!

My husband and I went to Trio for restaurant week for my birthday celebration. The prices had been too high to go on most other nights. We enjoyed everything we ate the night we went and would highly recommend it to anyone. Everything was well portioned and fresh and cooked perfectly. The atmosphere is exactly what you would expect for a restaurant of that caliber.

Fabulous food, ambiance, wait staff and cost!! We will return many times. For starters, we had the fried oysters and the cauliflower soup - both delicious!! Main courses were the pork chops and Bison rib eye - again delicious. The BEST pork chop I've ever had (sorry mom!).

I am so happy we finally tried this place. Parking can be a little snug but I understand they have valet. The hostesses were very friendly which was nice that it was upscale without being overly snooty for lack of a better word. I liked the chairs which made for comfortable seating. The interior looked very nice. We started with the antipasti plate and it was so very good. There was not a part of that starter that we did not enjoy. The pickled vegetable were a standout with the prosciutto and soppressata. We also opted for 1/2 dozen rappahannock oysters. Even the bread and butter was delicious. I had the filet with the chianti jus and it was phenomenal. The meat was so flavorful and tender. I finished with the key lime pie and it was yummy. My husband had the bone in prime rib eye with the truffle fries. He ended with the peach upside down cake and loved it. They even have menu options for the kids, my daughter enjoyed the pizza with a bowl of ice cream to finish. I was very pleased with the experience. You really can't go wrong with the steaks and they do it very well! We went on a Saturday early evening and booked reservations easily online. The piano is a great and not too overwhelming. Desserts were delicious. I look forward to going back in the near future.

A group of 7 of us ate there for Restaurant Week last night. I can not say enough great things about the service, it was excellent. They actually sat us in the back private room which was a nice touch. The food was delicious, and with RW it was such a great deal. The steak was cooked to perfection, and the peach cobble was delicious It was truly a wonderful experience, and I will definitely be going back.

I give Trio a 4 mostly because the service made up for the things I didn't love. Ashley was our server and it felt more like getting suggestions from a gf than a stranger. Loved her. The restaurant is gorgeous, I loved the atmosphere; it would be a great date night spot. To me, my main dish was a little disappointing-actually I think I might be slightly allergic to something in the mussels meal because while I was eating I got hot and my throat got tight- I ate about 5 mussels of the whole meal; I will be back to give something else another try. One of the best things was the butter for the bread; I can't remember exactly what it was infused with but I remember something about a beer, maybe blue moon? And the chocolate cake was fantastic. My friend made a joke that the fact that the cake was the best part is a little disconcerting because was it store bought or home made!? Hahah anyways, my other friends meals including the steak and mashed potatoes were the hit of the night. Again Ashley made the experience wonderful and worth it-I'll be back to give it another chance in a few weeks.

To start, bread and butter were amazing (we asked for seconds). I had the lamb and was extremely pleased! My mom had the NY Strip which was also fabulous! We shared the fries and spinach. I wasn't a fan of the hollandaise sauce or spinach, both too lemony for me. My fiance had the bison which was ok, I probably wouldn't order that again, I don't like when they slice the meat for you. Good wine selection. Service was slow but we were there on a slow night so I don't think people had pep in their step.

If you're looking for a topnotch restaurant outside of the DC area then you've come to the right place, you can stop searching. I went here with my wife last night for an anniversary dinner and we were definitely not disappointed. This place is a hidden gem worth trying! The food and restaurant were amazing; everything we tried was better than what we were expecting. We ordered the rack of lamb and filet mignon as our main entrees and everything was cooked perfectly. The appetizers are also delicious,( try the tuna tartare or the imported cheese served with tomato jam) and the desserts are worth saving some room for. Shout out to the management and staff there as well. Everyone was very professional and take great pride in their work and ensuring guest hospitality. Michael Thren, the manager, made us feel like VIP and ensured that we were taken care of. He went above and beyond to make our dining experience one to remember. Our server Rory Hogan was also friendly and superb, we highly recommend him as well. This was our first time dining here and we will be back for sure!

To celebrate NYE, my boyfriend and I decided to spend our night at the TRIO Grill. There was a 5-course preset menu prepared for that night and knowing tables would fill up fast, we set reservations for 10:00 PM. My boyfriend was not feeling well and decided to opt out of the meal but I was very eager to enjoy the night. Our waiter Tim was very friendly and attentive. He regrettably informed us that some of the menu items were no longer available due to high demand earlier in the night. That was a slight disappointment since I was looking forward to the beignets but I guess next time I'll make an earlier reservation . So in the end I decided to order the jumbo prawn, winter greens salad, duck wellington, and chocolate lava cake. I handed my Prosecco glass to my boyfriend since he was willing to at least have that. All four courses were wonderful! The jumbo prawn was a little cold when it got to my table but still delicious. The star of the winter greens salad was definitely the muscato poached pear. I ended up really only eating that and ignoring the greens haha! My favorite part of my meal was the duck wellington though. The duck was cooked perfectly! Very moist and seasoned to perfection. I was also scraping the luxardo cherry demi-glace off of my plate. Hopefully I didn't seem like too much of a glutton. The chocolate cake was delicious but a little over-cooked. Not much chocolate lava in the center. The night finished off with two orange truffles that were very sweet! My boyfriend got to have both since I was extremely full. I'm so glad that our NYE dinner was amazing and I can't wait to come back another night to experience more wonderful food.

Went to Trio for a friend's birthday. Signature cocktails were a big hit and made quite well. The tuna tartare was fantastic. Ingredients are really fresh and it shows. Interior is nice but the outdoor patio and separate cigar patio are a unique touch. Will be back for sure.

Amazing new-ish spot near my neighborhood! Took me awhile to get over there to try it but I'm glad I did and have been twice now! First time was for a girls dinner as a large group and we were able to snag the private dining room in the back. The dining room was really nice and the service was great! We had a large range of appetizers, entrees and desserts, everything was delicious and REALLY filling. The portions are large, you will be stuffed by the end of your meal! More recently I went back for a date night and we sat out on the back patio and had the perfect weather for it! We got a dozen oysters and were able to try out all four varieties. We also ended up sharing the lamb dish which amazing, it wasn't your typical lamb chops, it was two large meaty lamb pieces which was definitely satisfying in addition to our two sides - delicious, rich mac and cheese and the bacon collards. Great service and meal topped with some moscow mules, we will be back!

After such stellar reviews of this place, I was expecting a tasty meal with an upscale feel - they have a live pianist so that right there should set the mood. Maybe I was expecting too much, or the stars misaligned at almost every turn, but we were slightly disappointed with our visit to TRIO Grill. So non-food related points first. I didn't know they took coats, and they didn't offer to take it, so I awkwardly half sat on it the whole time. Come to find out that they had a coat closet available. Also, while the servers were very nice, everything was just a little off. After we ordered sparking water, someone promptly came by with tap water. Then when the sparking water came, he asked if we wanted a lemon or lime wedge right as someone else came by with a plate of limes. Those aren't big deals but that, coupled with waiting for a long time between our appetizer and main course (blamed on a large party), and our finished plates sitting for a long while, all seemed to be pretty (in)consistent to me. It wouldn't have been so bad if the food was awesome, but we found it to be pretty average. Out of the wild mushroom flatbread appetizer, salmon, and the short ribs, we enjoyed the flatbread the most because of the truffle oil (truffle oil always makes life better!). The short ribs were homey and filling but the salmon was disappointing and pedestrian. Even the wines by the glass were disappointing, in that of the 3 wines we ordered, 2 were completely bodyless. Normally on special occasions (did I mention it was a belated Vday dinner?) we like to go all out and order dessert and after dinner drinks too, but this was the first time in awhile where we were ready to go home. Maybe my expectations were too high...maybe my last blow out meal can't be topped for awhile (see Trummers on Main), but I'd say my experience at TRIO Grill was only a 3 star experience.

Wow! My in-laws took me here on a Friday night to celebrate my birthday. The food was delicious! The parking is limited but the valet parking is free (just leave a tip). It's safe to make a reservation. We had the following: Tuna tartare - yum Osprey point oysters - delish Lobster bisque - different but good Shrimp and grits - yum Scallops w/ risotto - so good! My in laws ordered some salmon and a seafood special of the night with lobster, oysters, and rockfish. They enjoyed it. There's not many places I've been to when everything is spot on. We even liked the butter for the bread! The decor was nice and the waiter was good. I got a nice fruity virgin drink from the bar. For dessert, I had the key lime pie - best I ever had. Good for groups. Great yummy experience.

First time visit, the next step in our quest to try out Merrifield restaurants with friends -- had drinks and appetizers after a movie. The wait staff was good (ALL have black hair to match their outfits -- visually striking!). Drinks were fine, though waiter couldn't really recommend any of the specialty drinks over any others. The food was, honestly, nothing special and rather high priced. Arancini were okay, but the antipasti were served on a cracked wooden platter that leaked the excessive oil all over the tablecloth and the beet salad was drowned in an unpleasant house dressing. I am also personally not partial to the decor, which seems all the rage (at least around Merrifield) -- sort of "cold industrial warehouse" -- for me, not at all inviting and certainly doesn't help reduce the ambient noise to conversational levels. In short, I found nothing special at Trio, so no reason to return. For many, it may be a convenient place to stop with friends during a big game -- just like so many newer places in the area. But for good (not to mention 'fine') dining, I require and expect a higher level of quality.

Decided to meet the girls here to catch up on life after checking out their fabulous happy hour menu online. $5 Truffle Parmesean Fries! $6 Flatbreads $7 Oysters on the half shell or Calamari! I'm in! Walked in and immediately felt underdressed. I was dressed for an Open Road atmosphere so when I walked into "Little Nordstroms" and saw the pianist tickling the keys on TRIO's baby grand....my face went from :) to :(. However, the hostess greeted us with a cheerful "Hello!" and a beautiful smile and I instantly felt welcome. From the hostess to our waitress to the Manager, every staff member we encountered was very cheerful and welcoming. The cocktails (on Happy hour from 5-7pm $7) tasted excellent and was presented very nicely. And the food.....the food....the Calamari appetizer was plentiful and included fried pieces of jalepenos and artichokes. YUM! They were prepared perfectly and the marinara sauce wasn't necessary...these fried nuggets of joy were perfect! The Truffle Parmesean fries were also excellent! The Oysters were a good a good size and tasted very very fresh! Overall, we had a fabulous time and we loved the service, food and cocktails. Cheers!

I met up with a few of my friends here to celebrate one of them recently getting engaged. Our service was excellent and all around was a pleasant experience! They have an impressive wine list and extensive wine by the bottle list, as well as specialty cocktails ranging from mid-tier to higher end. We ordered the charcuterie appetizer, which you can order for 2 or 4 people. We were three hungry girls, and the 2 person order was more than enough, and their prosciutto was exceptional- thin, fresh, and moist. We also got the burratta appetizer which was delicious. We had a few servers coming by (we sat at a high top by the bar) but how they earned their fourth star in my opinion was special. We were looking at some wedding dresses for our newly engaged friend on her phone and Carlos, one of our servers, took notice that we were celebrating. He surprised us with a glass of sparkling wine and dessert on the house! We had the key lime pie which was served with a toasted marshmallow topping which was awesome. They are part of the MHG restaurant group who also run all the Circa's and Open Road, so overall a well run business and I like all their concepts. I am in the F&B industry so I can be a little picky, but Trio was a great experience...

Great experience! My husband and I went with my mom for her birthday and we were so impressed! At our outdoor table the fans were on just the right amount to cool and keep bugs away without creating any wind. Comfortable seating made it easy to relax while the staff paid attention to detail and creating a very special experience. The menu set high expectations and we were not disappointed by anything. Our oysters were fresh, entrees were delicious and dessert was delightful.

Our waiter was excellent and attentive. My ribeye was perfectly prepared (rare plus = perfect medium rare with warm very red center). Seasoning was a tad too salty. But that steak was tender. Wow. I liked the brussel sprouts side. A good complement. My wife truly enjoyed the beet salad and Arancini. Our only issue was the wine. Rather, they have an extensive wine list. For me, that leads to questions on selection. Unfortunately, they do not have a sommelier on staff. Ultimately, I picked a wine, but it was not quite right for the meal. If they can address the wine selection process, a very nice, non-chain restaurant.

Ate there on Saturday Night, great meal, great wine list and is a great option instead of going downtown for a good steak dinner. Best Calamari I have had since they closed The Alpine in Arlington. Also get an order of the Go early and grab a drink in the bar before your meal, very professional bar staff.

Really great experience. After walking out of Ovvio Osteria, down the street, because they ran out of menus and apparently were having major issues with service that night, we showed up at Trio with no reservation. They were very prompt and sat us outside at a nice table. The waiter was awesome and really had a great combination of professionalism and friendliness. We ordered cocktails - which were excellent, and had the burrata appetizer (really good!). We then got the rockfish and the mushroom pasta. The rockfish was really good and I would order it again. The mushroom pasta was a little lackluster and I would not order again. I am not a vegetarian but asked the waiter if it was bland and he said it was really good/tasted like it had meat, even though it didn't. I should have just gone with my instinct and gotten short ribs or steak or something, but it was ok. Overall though, generally great service and really good food. I'd go back. I was hesitant to try this place because its owned by the people who own Circa, which I hate, but I thought the experience here was much better, overall.

I would give 3.5 stars if I could. I liked how the servers were friendly and the entrees came with sides. Most upscale steakhouses don't include sides with a steak entree you must order those separately. The sauces however that they offer with the steaks were limited from what I recall..but I liked the pasta bolognese entree that was vegetarian ...the sauce was very good. They did however seem to be a little understaffed or undertrained for an upscale restaurant. They dont pull the table out for you when you sit nor check to see if you want more bread etc..or let you choose among several breads...little things like that..plus the window view isn't that picturesque. ..you look out to a patio that is across from a gas station.

Overrated. S L O W. The quality of food was weak for the prices. We had the mussels appetizer and some literally tasted rotten. I had to spit it out into my napkin. The we're also gritty from poor cleaning. The lamb chops were good, cooked well, but lacked any real flavor. The space is nice, servers are also attentive and very nice. If I came just for the service sure I'd be back. Nope.

Decor was nice. The live entertainment was also a really nice touch. I liked our waiter, although our water and bread didn't come until maybe 10mins after we sat down. A table of four, we ordered the following: Fried Calamari, bland. Pork Belly, REALLY good! Chicken, tender. Crab Cake, tasty, but not too crazy about the chipotle aioli. Orecchiette, TOO SALTY. Had the kitchen remade the dish, but it's still too salty. Cioppino, TOO SALTY. Probably won't be going back.

First off for those who like the Ruth Chris's and Capital Grille's, this is your kind of place! The restaurant is a sister restaurant of Circa, which i loveeee. Its located in the middle of a small newly developed strip next to bar called Open Road. There's free vale available, which is great because the parking lot is small, but they find alternative parking near by for you. You walk in and just by looking at the decor you know your in a nice place. There's a live pianist near the host desk, which is great. Live music is always a plus. I took my bestfriend of all time to this place as a graduation celebration. It was both our first times. We start off with a bottle of wine called "Laughing Mag Pie" it was a blend of Syrah and Viognier, dry but still nice for those who don't like super dry wines. Expensive, but no surprise. You pay for what you get. The manager of the super actually suggested the wine to us. He has excellent knowledge of the wine types and chose a great wine for us. For appetizer we had the ceviche of the day. This was served in a small bowl over guacamole type dip with yuca chips. It was good, but not amazing. The best friend had the boneless ribeye 10oz...he loved it! and i had the Waygu Flat Iron, which they cut up into strips. Let me tell you, this steak was AMAZING. Soft and flavorful and juicy. Super pricey...but worth it over all. We ordered one side to share, the sweet mashed potato brulee which was the fluffiest cloud of potato. Very good!! It was sweet topped with fluffy marshmallow. Overall an excellent meal and time! I will determinately go back...for a special occasion!

We stopped in on a Monday night hoping to catch one of our favorite bartenders who recently started working at Trio. Sadly, we missed her, but the two gentlemen behind the bar that night took great care of us. While I can't review the food with this particular visit, I'll be sure to post an update as we will be visiting again. The space is large and spacious with several tables throughout and a beautiful wooden bar that spans one wall of the restaurant. The tables had white tablecloths and looked cozy and inviting. There is live music every night of the week! Nice upscale dining and live music makes for a perfect place for date night. The wine list was impressive - enough choices at several price points - something for everyone. The cocktail list looked like it had some interesting, creative choices as well. This night we opted to just enjoy a nice glass of wine before heading home. One of the bartenders was telling us about the concept of the restaurant and then mentioned the cigar bar. My husband's eyes lit up at the mention of a cigar bar so we had to check it out. To be honest, what I expected was a room sanctioned off from the restaurant with more relaxing seating. But this little cigar room was spectacular in my honest opinion. To begin it was a covered outdoor space with plenty of airflow. It was chilly this evening so they had both heaters and a lovely gas fireplace going so it was quite comfortable. The seating was set up to make this space a great place to relax with friends or just cozy up on the couch with your significant other. I wish I had thought to take a picture - I liked the space that much and I don't even smoke. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his cigar though. Although we were away from the bar, the bartenders continued with their stellar service! I can't wait to come back and try the food!

I hosted a bachelorette dinner at Trio Grill on Saturday May 31st and had high expectations from the place! I had heard such great things from many people about how impressive and delicious the food was. I made a reservation for 13 people and found that the reservation staff was very hepful with this! I notified them it was for a bachelorette party and when we arrived they immediately asked who the bachelorette was. I was very pleased with this! I would be giving Trio Grill 5 plus stars if I had to rank it on food and atmosphere alone, but sadly to say I am giving 4 stars because our service was very poor. Once we arrived, half of our party was getting seated, and ordered two bottles of champagne for the group of 10. It took our server at least 20 minutes or more until we A) saw him agian and B) got our champagne. After that entire night of service went downhill! It was very choppy and we did not feel that we were attended to at ALL! It was so bad that one of the guests had to ask the service to make sure he was more attentive and that fell to the way side. We arrived at 7:45 and did not get our entree's until 9:30, not becuase the food took that amount of time to come but beucase our server did not ask to take our entree order until 9PM. We would have flagged him down to take our order sooner but he was no where to be found! I will go back to Trio Grill with hopes that servicve gets better. We had a great night and enjoyed the food and drink greatley, just wished service was a little more attentive.

Came here with a girlfriend. The drinks were good, the ambience was great, the food was awesome, and the service was great as well! We both shared the cheese board (the tomato jam and the truffle honey are to die for!!) and we both ordered the filet that was on point. I can't wait to com back and try something else on their menu!

Trio Grill has some great food. I went during restaurant week. The restaurant week menu was great. I ordered the Red Snapper and it was perfectly cooked and was a great portion. The desert was just as great. I don't see why the regular menu wouldn't be a great. I will definitely come back.

I ate at Trio last night for the first time. The service, food, and ambiance were fantastic. Serge, the server, was attentive and made great suggestions and the manager, Sheri, was lovely. I went with two other people and we had the tuna tartare, lamb shank, roast chicken, and snapper. We finished with cheesecake and the apple cake. Everything was fresh and delicious, but the tuna was particularly good. We also had various cocktails and wine including the stormy night and the Moscow Mule. Scott, the bartender, explained each drink and was very friendly. All of the drinks were light and refreshing. I would definitely go back for a celebratory dinner or cocktail!

I went for happy hour with some co-workers and really wanted to like the place since it's so close to work (a nearby office that holds over 400 people to whom I could recommend this restaurant, mind you). The drink specials are great and the food specials we tried (parmesan truffle fries, flatbreads) were tasty, however small. But what spoiled the entire evening was the service. It was awful. We arrived and there weren't many people at the bar so our group of 8 sat at two tables. We paid as a group then some of us stayed longer to order more drinks. We were rushed and made to feel like we weren't welcome. When we responded to "need anything?" with "we're okay for now," we were presented with the check. No one in my group felt comfortable and it was overall a bad experience. I was so taken aback by the service (as were my co-workers) that I had to say something, so I asked to speak to the manager on the way out. He apologized, offered his card, and asked that I email. I did from my phone so that he had my feedback right away and have yet to hear back from him. I hope other parties do not walk away with the same feeling we did.

Had a reservation for 5:15 on a Friday night. Got there a little before 5pm. Not one space available in their parking lot. Gave the car to their valet and went in for dinner. The food and the service were above average. Although good, the restaurant was overpriced and management did not seem to have a good handle on what was going on. Before we paid out check out server asked for our valet ticket so "we would not have to wait so long for our car". After 45 minutes and a lot of asking where our car was, they finally admitted they lost the car. A good dining experience ruined by a horrendous experience trying to get out car back. Will never go back. Beware of parking!!! Terrible parking!!!!!

My new favorite restaurant in the Fairfax area! Great ambience in this restaurant -- decor is tasteful, tables and booths are quite nice, and tonight there was a talented pianist playing. I enjoyed the Old Fashioned cocktail, fresh oysters, and the tuna au pauvre. Our waiter was helpful and friendly; he was attentive yet not overbearing. My wife and I will be back soon.

We went to Trio Grill for a last minute NYE dinner. We could only get an early reservation and I wasn't too thrilled about eating at 530pm, but it was really very good. Since it was a fixed price NYE menu, we weren't really expecting much, but we both thought it was really very good for the price. The waiter tried to push us along when our drinks were brought to the table, but we let him know that we were enjoying our drinks; we would order a bit later and he was fine with that. He didn't rush us at all. The food was good, the ambience was excellent and we will definitely be back there for dinner off the menu. Nice live piano playing in the background. So glad there's a nice place to go to locally!

Too many great things to say about TRIO Grill. I came across this restaurant from a old friend who is now the executive sous chef at this location. She invited me and I thought this would be the perfect location for my husband's (who is also an executive chef) Birthday! From the time I called to change my reservation time to the moment I left the building my experience was outstanding! The hostess was very pleasent gave a us a choice where we wanted to be seated. Because it was such a gorgeous night we decided to sit outside and enjoy their lovely patio. The patio area was decorated gorgeously it felt like we were on a little romantic get-away. Our server Ryan was Amazing. Ryan even offered to light the outdoor fireplace which set such an amazing ambiance for us, even offered to take as many pictures as we requested. He knew the menu like the back of his hand and gave us many great suggestions on the menu. We did not take advantage of the Monday Night 1/2 off bottles of wine however I did have an amazing drink called "CUCUMBER MELON SANGRIA" so refreshing and delicious. Now the food. I can not say enough great things about the taste and quality of the food. My husband who is a chef usually orders for me and was very impressed by the menu. We decided to order off the small plate menu. The "CONFIT CHICKEN DRUMSTICKS " out of this world, the "CRAB DIP" was so fresh in every bite you could taste the effort and the prep it took to create this dish. I am not usually a big "ANTIPASTI" fan but if its at TRIO Grill I am. Last small plate we enjoyed was the "ARANCINI" was a fantastic surprise wrapped up in fried hand-rolled risotto. Hands down the best Key Lime Pie I have ever tasted!! Would love to give a great shout out and HUGE thank you to Chef Kelly, Ryan, and the amazing team at TRIO Grill for making my husbands birthday a special one. I will be back next week !

I cant wait to go back! We took my dad there for his birthday last week, and we had such a great experience! I'll admit, I didn't know how "fine-dining" it was until we arrived, and felt bad for bringing my two year old along, but everyone was welcoming and didn't treat us like horrible people for bringing a toddler to an upscale restaurant. The restaurant itself was beautiful, and the live piano player was such a treat! Our waiter, Rory, was awesome in taking care of us. He checked on us frequently, made sure we had drinks, bread, and was very informative about the menu. We started with the crab dip, which I'm still dreaming about. I'm no stranger to crab dip and I can say, far and away, this is the best I've ever had! Dad & I had the shrimp and grits, and they were not a disappointment. The shrimp were huge and the grits were creamy. It was a the perfect portion size. My mom had the salmon and loved it. My husband had a wedge salad with THE BEST blue cheese we've had, and a NY strip steak with caramelized onion. They even had Mac & Cheese for the kiddo! We were happy after dinner... Then came dessert. They brought dad a sweet cake with a candle for his birthday, and we also had the apple pie and chocolate cake. To be honest, we weren't expected to be blown away that night, trying a new place and all...especially after just so-so experiences at Open Road, but Trio will easily be becoming my new favorite place for a fancy night out!

We came to TRIO Grill because we discovered we had absolutely nothing in our refrigerator and I was not going to cook that evening. I decided I would schedule a reservation at TRIO as I had never been there before and I saw that there were decent reviews. We went on a Thursday evening right after work and it was very quiet. Proper attire is required which I prefer because I hate it when I am dressed nicely only to find someone else looking like they just threw something on. We were seated quickly at the booths and the waiter promptly provided us with menu's and asked if we'd like to start with a glass of wine. We thought we would start off with the bread and that came quickly as well. We finally decided on the glass of wine and the entree we liked and we ordered and spent the remainder of the time chatting. I love date night's and it's a very nice restaurant to have that. I'm excited it's close to where we are located. Also, there is a separate bar area which seemed to be a couple people there just enjoying their meal with a drink. Our food came out and my husband ordered the pork chop and i ordered the filet. My filet was cooked PERFECTLY. I really get excited when I see a restaurant ensure that dishes are cooked perfectly. It was a perfect medium and the steak was so tender and juicy. The asparagus and mashed potatoes are my personal favorites and they complemented my dish quite well. My husband loved his pork chops and was shocked at how big it was. That thing was HUGE so just be aware of that if you decide to get the pork chop. After seeing that thing, I was happy I stuck to my smaller filet. The wine that we had tasted very nice and we are looking out for a bottle so we can buy it when we see it. A great dinner experience and I'm happy to know at least one restaurant in the area that can cook the steaks just how I'd like them to be cooked. 5 stars.

We got the cowboy bone in rib eye with truffle fries and sweet potato brûlée, steak salad, branzino stuffed with crabs and peach upside down cake... Actually, food was good, however, the sweet potato brûlée was too sweet, yes TOO SWEET to pair with the steak.. It tasted like a sweet potato pie that's ready to be baked and become a dessert.. The steak was cooked perfectly and it has a "melt in your mouth" consistency.. The experience was good too, service was good.. Just the price, their price is just a little over much.. But if you're ready to spend some dough, then try it.

We went for Easter brunch. First rate food (despite buffet format). Service was exceptional. Lovely dining room. Upscale men's and women's room. Definitely would recommend/return.

Excellent food and outstanding service at Trio Grill. We celebrated our anniversary there on Sunday evening. We'd originally reserved a table at an upscale steak house downtown but then opted for someplace local and stumbled upon Trio. So glad we did! We enjoyed cocktails, each containing a house made element (Fee Bros. bitters and freshly made tonic). The fresh fig and rocket arugula salad, and the chicken soup with cheddar biscuit, were both divine. Equally superb were the main courses - scallops with mushroom risotto and the strip steak which was perfectly seared and cooked precisely as ordered. Trio is a true gem. We look forward to going back.
